Our Chaplaincy service is one of the threads which binds our school together and is envied by many other schools. It runs programs on a needs basis throughout the year and provides a caring ear for students who may be dealing with an issue - minor or major.

Our chaplaincy service is supported by parents through Chappy Week, Chappy Breakfasts, Pre-Loved Uniform Sales, the Coffee Cart and other events run by chaplaincy, such as the Bush Dance and Rock the Runway.

Dave McCafferty

What do SU QLD Chaplains do?

(Trevor and Andrea are employed by SU Qld.)

A school chaplain is a safe person for children to connect with at school, providing a listening ear and caring presence. They care for students struggling with a wide range of issues, including: family problems, confusing relationships, friendship issues, peer pressure, self-esteem issues, bullying and depression.

Chaplains run positive, fun activities for children, both in and out of school, and foster a supportive, caring school community. This includes support for at-risk students, support for staff and families from the wider school community, and spiritual support and direction for the school community.

The partnership between the school and the chaplain, supported by local churches, businesses and community organisations — and in many cases assisted by generous Federal Government funding — provides a network of local support. These positive relationships help children to face issues, and provide hope, connection, meaning, and purpose.

How can you get involved?

Every school chaplaincy encourages partnership with local churches and communities.

You can help by:

  • Volunteering to assist with student groups, and other activities or events.
  • Joining the Chaplaincy Committee to plan and fundraise.
