Over the years, Patricks Road has developed an enviable reputation as a school which values its community and has high expectations of student achievement and conduct. Our motto of Caring and Sharing indicates our commitment to the whole child as part of a supportive community. Our curriculum is based upon the belief that all children have achieved much in their lives, and we work together to ensure their education is not only soundly based, but exciting and futures oriented.
Due to our excellent reputation and increasing high achievement, enrolment has kept pace with the growth in local population, and sits around 800 students from Prep to Year 6. Classroom teachers are supplemented by specialist Music, Physical Education, Science and German and Indonesian teachers to deliver a varied and successful learning program for all students. An emphasis is placed on English and Mathematics as the basic building blocks for learning. Science, History, Geography and The Arts are all included in a broad education which is focused on assisting individual students to reach their potential.
Students are able to participate in a broad range of Performing Arts activities including a Leadership program, Instrumental Music program and Choirs. Interschool sport, combined with an awareness of a healthy diet through ‘Smart Choices’ ensures our students grow in understanding of a healthy lifestyle. We have a number of partnerships with our local high school and the School of Distance Education, meaning that our students are extended in a variety of areas including Science, Mathematics, Creative Writing and The Arts. Our partnership with the Brisbane School of Distance Education resulted in our entry being awarded second place nationally in 2012.
Students with a range of impairments or difficulties are a welcome part of our school, and we have a range of specialist learning support, guidance and therapy services available. This, along with our understanding of behaviour as a part of growth and development, provides for an equitable and understanding approach to social growth of students.
Outstanding school facilities include a two storey modern Resource Centre, a Science laboratory, a Middle Phase Learning Centre containing Year 5 and 6 classrooms, computer labs with new computers and an up to date collection of resources. A new Prep facility features a child centred activity centre and an early learning outdoor space.
Classrooms are equipped with computers, interactive whiteboards, interactive projectors and access to a number of multi-media devices including a video recording studio. We have iPads available in our library and some in use by classes within the school. Our three year action plan will see us continually examining trends and developing ways to enhance student learning through the use of technology.
Our Assembly hall has recently been enhanced by the installation of huge fans,
making large functions cool and comfortable, and a "state-of-the-art" Audio-visual system. This hall can be used for sport, assemblies and whole-school and community activities. We have a variety of play equipment and playgrounds, an Art room, a Music room, well-equipped Science laboratory, covered games areas and school tennis courts.
